Your entryway is the 1st thing your customers see, customers will certainly notice a sticky floor, and come to their own conclusions about the cleanliness of your business. Bad customer reviews and online ratings can affect your revenue. Dirty floors are noticed by the customer, but they dont always complain about it. Depending on your business industry, this can cause you to lose customers. 86% of consumers say cleanliness is the main thing they’re looking for before choosing a room.

When giving potential customers a tour in a skilled nursing facility. It wasn’t until I asked the question, what  they thought, could use improvements in the five star skilled nursing facility, they were touring? They told me, when they walked through the doors the floor was sticky and the floor “didn’t look clean in some areas”. The Tourees, told me they had one other facility to look at and thanked me for my time. This bad first impression cost the facility a customer and I had to wonder how many times this happened in the past. Since, this was the 1st time I had asked this sort of question. Less is more, believe it or not.

There are still housekeepers using more floor cleaning solution than recommended, or using the wrong cleaning solution all together.  Using more cleaning solution than necessary can increase your cleaning efforts and it can only add to the problem. There are times, I still see housekeepers mopping using dirty water to clean with. This only adds to the problem creating more work. Make sure you change your water frequently, or use a microfiber bucketless mopping system to ensure your cleaning with fresh water, everytime. Always make sure you follow the manufacturer’s guidelines to ensure an effective clean, using the correct amount of cleaning solution and using choosing the right products for the job..

 

Mixing cleaners or using the wrong cleaner.

We ran out of floor cleaner can’t I just mix windex and bleach to clean the vinyl floor? In a Hotel entry way while on a tour of the facility with the manager. The housekeeping manager, reluctantly told me they forgot to order the Boardwalk floor cleaner solution they normally used and thought it would be ok to use windex and a little bleach to clean the entryway. I told them that mixing chemicals was not recommended. They said it was just bleach and windex. I then began to tell them, that mixing these chemicals can cause chlorine gas, which can cause irritation to the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. In large doses, it can kill a person. I then explained that an ammonia based cleaner can ruin the finish on a laminate floor causing it to appear dull, break down and crack over time.  They agreed to use plan water to clean the entry way instead of mixing chemicals that could result in deadly consequences. I gave them my telephone number and card. Telling them they could call me with any questions they had.  I also mentioned our Auto Re-order feature to assist with frequent orders. Luckily I was meeting with the hotel manager that day and the housekeeping manager stopped to ask me this question. This could have resulted in a need to evacuate the building and thousands of dollars in damage to the large entryway. 

 

 Food, or outdoor residue are other common causes of a sticky dirty floor. 

Fortunately, fixing this problem is quick and easy. If your sticky floor is caused by food or outdoor residue, we recommend using a hot wet microfiber cloth lightly scrubbing to loosen the residue before wiping it up and then using a microfiber mop with your cleaning solution. You may have  to do this twice to ensure the sticky substance is fully removed from the surface.

Weather related salty sticky floors.

Can give off that give off that  not so friendly, unclean unkept bad first impression. Salt residue sticky floors cannot be effectively cleaned by a like chemical. Meaning an acidic sticky surface would need an alkaline ( neutral) cleaner to remove the stickiness. Otherwise you are just adding to the problem. Most of the time salt residue can be cleaned up with a neutral cleaner.  Salt affects the PH of your cleaner and can increase acidity.
